Kerburans assyrier har sedan sin första bosättning gång på gång drabbats av förföljelser och folkmord. Under folkmordet Seyfo 1915 blev Kerburan en av de mest utsatta platserna i hela Turabdin.

Det är välkänt att alla assyriska byar fick sin beskärda del av barbariet, morden, trakasserierna och förföljelserna under Seyfo, men det lidande som Kerburans invånare utstod saknar motsvarighet. Kerburans öde och historia har hittills varit okänt för de flesta, och ännu färre känner till vad assyrierna där tvingades uthärda på grund av sin etnicitet och religiösa tillhörighet.

Dokumentationen om dessa händelser har varit bristfällig, vilket i sin tur är ett resultat av det långvariga förtryck och de förföljelser som de assyriska invånarna utsattes för av kurderna i Kerburan och de trettiotre kringliggande kurdiska byarna.

Genom några överlevares personliga berättelser vill denna bok försöka belysa och skapa en djupare förståelse för hur folkmordet Seyfo drabbade assyrierna i Kerburan. Förhoppningsvis kan den tjäna som en inspirationskälla för vidare forskning och fler böcker om ämnet, liksom bli ett värdefullt bidrag till studier om Seyfo.

We became Slaves on our own Lands – Survivors’ Stories from the 1915 Genocide 

Since their first settlement, the Assyrians of Kerburan have repeatedly suffered persecution and genocide. During the Seyfo genocide of 1915, Kerburan became one of the most vulnerable places in all of Turabdin.

It is well known that all Assyrian villages had their fair share of barbarity, murder, harassment and persecution during Seyfo, but the suffering endured by the inhabitants of Kerburan is unparalleled. The fate and history of Kerburan have so far been unknown to most, and even fewer know what the Assyrians there were forced to endure because of their ethnicity and religious affiliation.

Documentation of these events has been lacking, which in turn is a result of the long-term oppression and persecution that the Assyrian inhabitants were subjected to by the Kurds of Kerburan and the thirty-three surrounding Kurdish villages.

Through the personal stories of some survivors, this book seeks to shed light and create a deeper understanding of how the Seyfo genocide affected the Assyrians in Kerburan. Hopefully, it can serve as a source of inspiration for further research and more books on the subject, as well as become a valuable contribution to studies on Seyfo.

May the book be a reminder of the importance of never letting history be silenced.
